Geographical Position

Strategically positioned in the Indian Ocean, the Island of Mauritius covers a vast Exclusive Economic Zone of rich fishing waters. Its harbour, Port-Louis is a regular port of call for many fishing vessels and a regional hub for maritime traffic, thus facilitating exports to around the world.

Advantages

Mauritius forms part of the ACP countries, is a proactive member of COMESA and SADC and has agreements with the EU and several countries and more recently Russia. Hence, Mauritian Seafood products have several benefits, amongst which being “duty free” upon entry to Europe.

Shipping

Most shipping lines have vessels calling into Port Louis weekly namely: Maersk; CMA-CGM; MSC to name but a few. Appropriate Containers are readily available:

  • -60°c Super freezers available in 40ft
  • -35°c Magnums in both 40ft & 20ft

The volume to fit inside a 40ft container varies according to the specification of the finished product and its packaging. For a single product type a 40ft container would typically carry:

  • Either - 22mt of Tuna Loins
  • Or - 20mt of Tuna Steaks
